I doubt the PS3 will over take 360 for this generation. 360 is far too strong in North America and is still holding its own in Europe/Others.
Price won't matter much, because for every price drop the PS3 gets, Microsoft will make a price drop on 360 as well.
Really it comes down to how the market reacts this holiday season. It is now or never for Sony... If they are behind 5.5 million going into next year that is far too much to make up against a console that is selling well like the 360 is today.
