It doesn't matter HOW they did it. What matters is what happened. and once again its how you look at it. I say they dropped the price $100 dollars in two stages, to spark more sales. And you can say all the ifs you want, if the PS3 had more supplies you can say the 360 would be much lower in sales. Facts are this. PS3 never really had a supply issue. The Wii has and does have one now and so did the 360 for teh first few months. PS3 launched at 599 and 499. Its now 499 and 399. It hasnt had Europe for the duration of existence, and that is its best selling region. It is outselling the 360 this holiday season costing $100 more with less games. Sony had stock piled for launch giving Europe its best sales ti couldn't have been much better since supply was ample even at launch. It barely outsells the 360 WW with a holiday boost in Japan and Europe and even the US. The PS3 numbers are going to drop the hardest after the Holidays are over. besides we are comparing the launch years not thePS3 launch year and second 360 year. If the PS3 drops prices, it has the PSP and PS2 to counter loses and it has also cut costs on development, more so than the Xbox has since it dropped last. The 360 has only the 360 to rely on in its gaming department. the XBOX has the entire Microsoft corporation to really on while Sony is already sinking a significant amount revenue into the PS3. The 360 is also rumored to be profitable now while the PS3 is not rumored so. And this price cut talk, it does spur sales for a few weeks, not months. The PS3 is the hotter item WW, not counting the US. Bottom line. The PS3 is doing better in Japan but look what happened it spiked after the price cut/New SKU hovered with the release of new popular game and carried on by the holiday season but did not rise because teh sales spike was over. the last price cut was timed perfectly allowing for an early holiday lift. After the Holiday the PS3 will drop back to 20K in Japan and probably a little less. And bundles? The 360 has the Halo 3 bundle still right? The Xbox is dying in Europe. As the PS3 rises the Xbox falls. Halo 3 actually saved it from getting smashed this year. Without Halo 3 launch, or if MGS4 had come out this year, how much would the 360 have lost by? The price cuts and SKU shifting have only been a band aid for the PS3 it still has its problems for entering the mass market. Halo 3 or not the 360 saw sales spikes with Bioshock and other games as well. Persoanally I do not own a 360 and probably never will most games I want for it will come out on PC and will probably look better on the PC than the 360. That said I did own a PS3 until it got stolen and will probably buy it again once some better games come out. When I had a PS3 I spent most of my time playing Blast Factor, Flow, and Untold Legends(Yeah I know the game sucks but for what it is it is actually kind of fun).
