And I just said that the PC gaming business is much smaller than the console business, except the MMOs. That is why I said PC gaming is about facebook games and MMOs. I know wow is big and VERY profitable. But besides MMOs, there is not much left. "regular" games usually sell better on consoles, even at a higher pricepoint. Check Modern Warfare 2 (included in these numbers) or Mafia II (latest VGC numbers). And I thought SC II would move more units than it did. |
An annual report in which a huge console game is released and no pc game worth writing home about.
Look PC industry makes their money differently than consoles do. You try to say that console gaming has more marketshare but you ignore that the markets function differently. In fact, you omit the entire basis of the PC industry. Just look at PC gaming nowadays.
Rarely do they make most of their profits on a single title. That is why PC games have expansions. It's the same game with some tweaks! Why do you think console gaming does that now, with map packs, and DLC? Because that's they way PC gaming companies make money. On top of that, there are dozens of pay per play MMOs, and on top of them, dozens of free MMOs that provide extra content upon payment of very few dollars. Did you know that many many many thousands, if not millions are spent on facebook games like mafia?
You can't compare the two markets and ignore how the profits are made just because it's different. That's like saying we can't take into account DD or DLC or map packs because those are different from how games are usually bought, that's like saying we can't take Live subscriptions, because that is not how consoles traditionally make profits.
The PC industry is changing. It isn't collapsing. It's only collapsing if you refuse to adapt your accounting methods.
