They just need to make a balance. Say, 90% of the encounters, you should be able to beat. Meanwhile, the 10% would post somewhat a wipeout risk and the best option would be to run away.

I remember renting 7th Saga way back and I couldn't get anywhere with it, LOL. Mostly because it was so slow.

Yeah, the slowness of 7th Saga was one of my put-offs from that, also. And it really annoyed me that if you attack physically, you have to defend every other turn to do any real damage, but the enemy didn't have this limitation.
