Every time I turn on a PS3 I have to wait at least 10 minutes before I can get into a game after all the updating, installs etc.
With Wii I think Nintendo puts mandatory updates for all their big games because updates gets rid of homebrew, so If you want to play the game it will brick your Wii.
Other than that, no point.
