The recent surge in Xbox 360 sales is pretty impressive.

The question though is -- what is causing it?

Is it the price drop for stock clearance has made people jump off the fence?

Or are people trading in their old models for new ones, resulting in strong sales but not really generating new users?

Or maybe its Wii owners upgrading to HD. They gotta do it sometime.

I dunno, but a majority of the console sales are likely new users.

Now you sound like Pacther - except that it only helps explain the PS3 since he said Move PS3=WiiHD.

I expect reality lies in all of these explanations. Though I would love to see numbers on how many existing console buyers bought other consoles (either as replacements (for the same) or enhancements (meaning different consoles from what they owned).

No, I wasn't using Pachter logic.

Puggsly logic says the Wii library is awful and its possible many Wii owners are looking elsewhere (I say this as a Wii owner).

Wii sales are way down as well. Its likely the 360 has become more appealing to those looking to buy a new console.

Actually, according to VGChartz, Wii sales are only down about 2% from last year and is still outselling the competition.

(And I know that while this invalidates some of your description, it does not change the potential validity of your basic premise that people are deciding to buy other consoles.)

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
