I agree, Batman is a bit of a nothing superhero.
But I think the reason for his success is because he's, for lack of a better word, feasible. The kind of superhero where people think "Yeah, If I had all that money and technology that is what I would be doing", even though they know that in reality they couldn't. I think Iron man has the same kind of appeal too.
