After watching the video and gaining a more defined knowledge of the subject from this short documentary, I now more then ever believe that software patents need to be completely removed from the system. Its halting innovation and productivity from everyone from large software companies like Microsoft, Apple, and Adobe, and independant and small development teams.
As with the example shown with music. Could you imagine of video game processes would start getting patented in the USA? Americans would never see a character jump again, shoot a gun, run, walk, or stay in one place ever again. We wouldn't even be able to play pong because the movement of the ball would probably fall into whatever broad language is used for walking and running. We would have blank screens or flashs of light that we need a piece of paper on screen and our imaginations to play (yes I know this was done before in the first generation of game consoles).
