I think it's a perception thing. When I think of playing my PSP, I know I'm going to be on it for at least 30 minutes to an hour, whereas if I pick up my DS, I know I can do it and switch it off in 5-10 minute bursts. Load times on UMD discs also add to the perception, as do the type of games. If you want a console experience on the go, I would recommend the PSP. If you want pick up and go games, the DS has a better variety of them. DS = K.I.S.S. It is advertised as a gaming only device, whereas the PSP is a Jack of All Trades - Music, Movies, Internet, Gaming (and to some, a master of none). These are very real perceptions held by the public, not necessarily my viewpoint. The PSP is in a class of its own though. Comparing the gaming experiences between the two is hard, if not pointless.
