Consider this.  Even at the lower sales point at the moment, it is still at a higher pace than the PS2 was at this same point. 

Not only is not not dying (more like running at a good jog than sprinting) but a follow up console is definitley not being rushed.

Was the GC follow up rushed to market when GC sales were dropping and looked worse than N64 sales?  Not at all.  Their next console will hit the market when Nintendo feels their software designers need new hardware.  That is how they've always operated.  Sales do not have much bearing on it ever considering they profit regardless of the volume.
