Ok I'm going to ignore all the conspiracy theory nonsense about the U.S. Government being involved in 9/11.
There is a problem though in not allowing defendants and their lawyers to reasonably defend themselves and especially when it comes to not being allowed to talk about their interrogations. I mean if you were on a jury in a regular trial for example and found out the cops gained a confession by depriving the person of sleep for days, strapping them into a chair and pretending they were going to electrocute them, dunking their head in water for days on end, keeping them in positions for hours that cause excruciating pain, using drugs that make them hallucinate and experience fear at levels most people couldn't comprehend, don't you think that would make the confessions at least a little untrustworthy?
Most people will break under torture but the problem is that they are willing to confess to anything and can be easily lead in their confession to say whatever those interrogating them want that person to say. Also since they're being tortured it's likely that those doing it believe that the person is guilty and will not accept pleas of innocence so it continues until they get the guilty plea they're looking for or some other evidence is found to exonerate the person.
I guess for some and their twisted logic it's ok to torture because for the guilty people you find out the information you need but for those that are guilty of lesser crimes or no crimes at all, well to some people those are just casualties of war, but that doesn't make it right or acceptable. It's especially not acceptable after the fact like now where these same people are being sentenced to life in prison or death based on the confessions.
