Nintendo is not the only company that developers and the like have taken issues with.  There was a developer at one GDC that said Microsoft's plan (at the time) "sent shivers down his spine."  The bad kind of shivers.  I want to say in 2003 or 2004.  A great many developers were displeased with Sega for all kinds of things, not the least of which was the way they handled the Sega-CD, 32X, and Saturn.  No medium is perfect, and even recall very early on that some developers found the PS2 difficult to work with, and the way Sony handled the PS3's launch no doubt disappointed more than a few of them.

The difference is that Nintendo fans seem to take it personally, and tend not to buy the 3rd party games.
