The commercials didn't really help either....
We already know that there is a market for "core" (or whatever you wanna call it) games on the Wii. Call Of Duty Modern Warfare: Reflex and Monster Hunter Tri are "core" games that came out recently that did sell well. It might not be as big as the market for the PS3/360, but it IS there.
