And, before someone (there's always one) points at the DS, I'm just talking about home consoles here.

Anyway, it's been in the lead for 8 weeks back-to-back so far. The question is - how many weeks will it win, in total, in a row (including those 8 weeks)?

Rewind a few months and I would've said that, until the next generation kicks off, the Wii would have always been in 1st, with the exception of a handful of weeks punctuated by major events for the other 2 (a huge exclusive, or price cut, etc.), but it's been 8 so far; more than I ever expected.

Can the 360 carry on through to the holidays, with the help of the Arcade launchy in Europe, Reach and Kinect? Will Wii even be able to reclaim its crown come the holidays as most expect? Or will it actually be the PS3, thanks to the release of GT5, that ends to streak... for a week or two at least?

My own predictions: Unless I'm missing something major or a price cut is announced for one of the other consoles, yes I think it can maintain the lead, albeit a diminishing one, up to the holidays. That'll be thanks to the European Arcade, Reach and then eventually Kinect. I'd also put myself  in the camp that think Wii is an unusual beast during the holidays, and that it will reclaim 1st place at some point during that time period, although exactly when I have no idea. And no, I don't think GT5 will put PS3 in 1st place for the week, purely because that's also Kinect's American launch week (had it not been then I think GT5 would have done it).

So I'll go for early December some time, which puts me in the 24-28 range, which sounds ridiculously high to me, but that's what I end up with.

I firmly beleive one reason the 360 has maintained a steady 5 million lead over the PS3 ( slightly above or below that over the last 4 yrs but close to that level overall ) because the 360 is clearly more of a 'gaming platform'  PS3 fans can disagree, but these number dont lie..

Going to the VGchartz DataAnalysis> Software Totals..

Choose to list 1000 games per page and choose worldwide to list all titles.. This will show all games for PS3 & Xbox 360 and their total sales..

*Xbox 360-library= 642 titles .... total number of games sold worldwide= 388.01 million

*PS3---------library= 484 titles .... total number of games sold worldwide= 262.09 million

Thats a WHOPPING total of 126 Million (more) games sold on the xbox 360 ( 7.4 BILLION US Dollars in sales more in software sales the 360 - this is why console numbers don't mean always mean alot because software is where the money is made !! ), to make matters even more pressing, that number in the 360's favor - would be much higher in the 360's favor when you consider how many people pirated games over the last 5 years on the 360!   Up until now the PS3 hasn't been vulnerable to that, but that seems to be changing.
