Funny you should mention this: The first two times I dropped my DS it was without the protective casing. And it's not just me that is prone to dropping stuff; it's my 3-year-old son I have to look out for!
Actually, with the DS, I don't care if my son messes with it all he likes (three drops is enough to convince me that it can take the punishment), but my son definitely does not get to touch the PSP without adult supervision! It's a great machine and all, but it is fragile - my guess is simply because it has pretty delicate moving parts (the DS doesn't).
