What? the PS3 has had  a much more steady lineup than the Wii. If anything im surprised the wii still levels off at 20k. 

It just seems like most of PS3's games appeal more to a western audience, moreso than Nintendo's.

Recently, there really hasn't been lot of steady releases in Japan as a whole, PS3 or Wii (at least for consoles). Japan is all handhelds these days.
