Its unlikely that Sony is going to be caught flat footed again. I think this generation has really proved that off the shelf and/or modified off the shelf designs can cost the same or less for equal performance as compared to custom designs and are able to be deployed much more rapidly. Even if Sony are late to the party, they won't be so late as to be completely outside of the launch window of the other two consoles. Its quite likely they will launch within 6 months of the second console to release at the latest if they don't launch second or first.
