If Microsoft can advertise Kinect as the next 360, as new tech (which they have been), the wannabee tech junkies will buy them ASAP.

IMVHO MS tries to give this feeling very often when it release something new, even if it's a simple upgrade or add-on. With WinXP it did wonders, despite it being essentially an update to Win2000.

Exactly my point. The big M advertises itself as the forerunner in tech and people just eat that up. Look at 7 compared to Vista. It's kind of like Vista Service Pack 3, but people (including me) were cool with that and think that it is the best Microsoft OS ever.
