Although I didn't think of using cannons in conjunction with the mothership...

anyway, don't build them until you have a mothership that can stealth them, otherwise you're just wasting your minerals.

It is really hard to put up a wall of cannons when the mothership shows up because the zerg are almost constantly coming, even if you could protect them long enough to spawn, the zerg just block all the spaces and you end up having holes.

This start only works if you kill the overseer immidiately though, otherwise your cannons get seen and end up being killed.
