Is Lair for the PS3, that bad of a game?

Why? That's the native rendering resolution! If you play it only anthing less this will be scaled down by the PS3's or HDTV's scaler, but the game itself is still rendering in 1080p, so that doesn't make much sense.

Have you truly played this game?

I only played it in 1080p and later read several accounts that the framerate was smoother on lower resolutions.  I didn't get a chance to test this myself, but the framerate issues were certainly noticeable at 1080p.
