The DS is suffering from handheld games in general getting lower reviews (just look at the PSP with no 90+ rated games), and many of the games being so different to what reviewers are used to that rating them is difficult. How do you rate Phoenix Wright and Ouendan on the same scale as Dead Rising or Heavenly Sword?
Zack&Wiki is a good example of a Wii game with the same problem. The game is so undeniably brilliant that only one reviewer has been uncultured enough to give it a score lower than 80, but so different that very few have had the balls to give it anything above 90.
Most reviewers simply can't tackle this problem, and opt to give some of the most innovative games of our time 80-something scores to offend as few people as possible.
