One of the main reasons the DS has mopped the floor with the PSP is that Nintendo maintained a strong library in all of the key genres that the Gameboy line was known for; there are plenty of good RPGs, 2d platformers and puzzle games. The PSP tried to bring success in the handheld market by dominating genres that were popular on the PS2. The result is that people who own a PSP are far more likely to be playing emulated SNES games on their PSP than PSP games; many of these games that they're playing for the SNES are similar to the games that are available for the DS.
