Why is GT5 being compared to totally unrelated genres? Is it purely for the purpose of suggesting GT5 is gonna bomb? FM2 and GT4 sold almost identical numbers in Americas, soooooo

I like this chart better.

No, I did it because someone asked me to do it.

Wasn't meaning you. You didn't make comments suggesting GT5 is doing poorly in pre-orders. People simply looked at the chart you provided, drew the wrong conclusions and proceeded to claim that GT5 wasn't meeting expectations. Seems to me GT5 is on track to be the best selling (non-Kart) racer in America this gen. Not bad for an exclusive on the distant 3rd placed console.

Because GT is one of the biggest franchises in gaming ?

It's plain obvious that it will beat Shift and Forza 3, so of course we need to compare it to other big games.

Not really in America though.

In America it's the biggest franchise in racing. Only one GT game has cracked 4 million in America (GT3 A-Spec). Admittedly it cracked it big time, making over 7 million. But really that's the only super selling GT Game in the Americas. It's the only GT game in America's all time top 50, whereas there are 4 GT games in EMEAA's top 50. As opposed to Halo where in America's all 3 main Halo games are in the top 50, but none of the Halo games are in the EMEAA top 50. Should we say Halo Reach is doing badly in pre-orders in EMEAA if it is substantially below GT5 preorders? History would say comparing GT5 preorders with Halo Reach isn't really a legitimate comparison, even though Halo is one of the biggest franchises in gaming. If Halo: Reach out-preordered GT5 in EMEAA that would be a truly momentous occasion, as would GT5 out-preordering a major shooter franchise in the Americas.

I'm confused, show me the preorder comparison between Halo: Reach and GT 5. Maybe I'm missing something here but afaik there isn't one! The only comparison GT 5 has been placed in is to see whether it will be the biggest launch on the PS3 making the fact that it's a racing game irrelevant to the comparison.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.
