Itagaki: Devil's Third is 'best game ever'

Ninja Gaiden auteur pretty confident about THQ shooter

Dead Or Alive And Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki has claimed that his new third-person shooter is very good. Okay, exceptional. Okay, the best video game of all time.

The notoriously modest auteur (*cough, splutter etc.*) unveiled Devil's Thirdjust before E3 in June - complete with an impressive trailer.

Itagaki told the latest issue of Edge Magazine that the third-person shooter wouldn't reach the frustrating difficulty level of his previous games - as THQ's testers were helping him temper his penchant for deliberately inaccessible game design.

He even apologised for the near-impossible-to-beat final boss seen in Dead Or Alive 4.

He commented: "Look, I'll say it: the boss character in Dead Or Alive 4 was definitely too difficult. I'll apologise for it. I'm the one who did that, and I'm sorry.
"But, look, Ninja Gaiden, it was absolutely intentional that it be that difficult. That game was a revival version of a classic game for old-school gamers, so I wanted to make the hardcore happy.

"Ninja Gaiden 2, though, I really wanted more people to enjoy that, but... we ran out of time for balancing. That was a tragedy. Really.

"For Devil's Third, there's absolutely nothing to worry about. We've got support from THQ's testing team, and we're going to work really closely with those guys to balance out the game. It's going to be the best game ever."

You've got to love him.

Itagaki revealed earlier this year that the PS3 version of Devil's Third - which is also due out on 360 in 2012 - will be playable in 3D.
