It looks like Kinect has passed the IGN test. If they hate on it then obviously its going to do well, cue Wii console and Wii games.

From September 2006, just a few months prior to the Wii's launch:

Of course, all things considered, the fact that Wii plays GCN games is probably one of the least compelling reasons to pick up the new console -- at least compared to its other selling points. Not only is it sleeker, smaller and more powerful than its predecessor, but it has a launch library that immediately surpasses some second and even third generation outtings on other systems. Wii will launch with what could be the best videogame of all time in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and with other potential hits like Metroid, Rayman, Madden, Far Cry, Red Steel and Excite Truck rounding out the list, there are a lot of games to be jazzed about.

Nintendo says playing is believing. We've played Wii's lineup and we are believers. Keep on reading to discover which Wii games will be available for your holiday wish list. We think you'll be surprised by just how many titles are on the way for the system's launch.

Despite the fact that Nintendo went out of its way to showcase Wii Sports at E3 2006, there are still a lot of question marks surrounding this simplified, but inspired sports compilation disc. The set features at least three popular sports, including baseball, tennis and golf, all of which were demonstrated in playable form last May. The controls - like the graphics - are simplified to the extreme. For example, in Tennis, players don't actually move the characters on-screen, but rather swing their rackets. Nintendo has chosen to keep the games very basic in order to make them very accessible for any type of player. As part of the hardcore, we'd love nothing more than to mock this approach, but truth be told, Wii Sports is a lot of fun.

I can find numerous quotes like this surrounding the Wii's launch.  The Wii only garnered significant "hatred" twice in its life:  First when the Wii was revealed in 2005, when the controller's remote-like design was met with considerable skepticisim, and again in 2008, when hardcore gamers feared Nintendo would only be making games like Wii Fit and Wii music for the rest of the generation.  The former fears were abated mid-2006, when Nintendo proved that the Wii actually works, and works quite well.  The latter issues were mostly resolved this past E3, when Nintendo unveiled Kirby, Donkey Kong, Zelda, and numerous other games.  There are still some bitter fanboys out there that are butthurt over the Wii's amazing success, but most people are back on board thanks to the return of Nintendo's best IPs plus the upcoming 3DS.

The Wii's announcement and launch is quite the reverse of Kinect, which was met with great interest thanks to the promises made at E309, followed by a great deal of backlash after it failed to live up to many people's expectations.  Wii articles circa 2005 were far more negative than Natal articles from last year, while Wii articles from just prior to launch were incredibly positive compared to the Kinect articles of today.

The idea that everyone hated the Wii and wanted it to fail around launch is a myth that really needs to die.  Launch was the first time people were truly excited about the system, thanks to impressive E306 demos, the Super Mario Galaxy reveal, and Twilight Princess becoming a launch title.  There was much skepticism before this, and much hatred after this, but late 2006 was one of the few times Nintendo was getting a great deal positive press this generation.

2005 it really didn't get hate either man, people were a bit skeptical but thats the way people always treat something new and unproven, the hate didn't come till 2008 for some reason when some of the best games on the platform hit lol

People act like its the hate means it will do well but to be honest the hate only came after it became clear the PS3 and 360 would not reach Wii in sales then the hate flowed like a river, hate it now, then most likely so will everyone else, hate it later then everyone already loves it and you're hating on it's success
