Of course the PS3 shipment figures would  upset many fanboys...

But the signs were pretty clear the quarter before the latest report. VGChartz simply undertracked the PS3 (back then and by the end the previous quarter). There was overwhelming evidence that at the end of the quarter ending March 2010 the PS3 was in short supply that quarter in major regions such as North America and Europe, this while retail got overloaded with cheap XBox 360 arcade units.

Now PS3 stock levels have normalized last quarter as anticipated (contributing to the spike of retail sales). I dedicated a few threads to this topic here on VGChartz regarding the topic, so if you are a regular the big shipment figures for the previous quarter shouldn't come as a surprise. This sales spike was anticipated.

I am more surprised by the fact the PS2 again beats XBox 360 shipments figures like it did the quarter before!

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."
