Sony needs more first party games

MGS4 will do much worse than FFXIII, Gran Turismo 5 and GTAIV... definitely it's way to early to talk about whole gen... especially before games like God of War 3, Killzone 2, Resident evil 5 etc. Maybe you didn't realise but this gen has just started...

I just think it's going to be bigger than it's predeccesors, which I think is fair.

The first and second MGS games sold around 5.5 million copies.  The PS3 install base is nowhere near large enough to generate sales of that magnitude.
