This is nothing special btw, holographic technology has been around for years, also know as the holographic versatile disc(HVD). Early prototypes already hade a capacity of 500 gb(20 times that of a normal Blu-Ray) with a possible max capacity of 6 to 10 terabytes(6000-10000gb). Many big companys including Sony are active in the development of these discs, and plan on releasing 1tb discs  around 2019.

In the mean time although the current maximum for Blu-Ray is 50gb with 2 layers, there are already prototypes shown that support up to 10 layers, increasing Blu-Ray to 250gb witch will be more than enough for a possible PS4.

Besides gaming will probably move on to digital distribution in the future.
