Where the hell is the evidence that the "casual" audience is like that? I've seen accusations, but never proof.
The mainstream isn't some fad oriented group. Their tastes can change, but that isn't the same thing. You give them someting they want to buy, and they will buy it. That's been the case since about when capitalsim began.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
