I don't think there's any point in denying that ALL games appeal to the kid in us. It's all about objectives and rules and finding clever ways to accomplish them and work within them, and being entertained along the way. Every game from Pong to GTA is really about that, or we wouldn't play them. Even the most "realistic" game edits or replaces reality to a considerable degree, in the name of fun.
