One personal opinion on homophobic people. It's only natural of human beings to feel repulsion over something that's not following the lines of our natural ways of behaviour. I'm not even justifying homophobic people at all, because that's terrible, but you can't be angry over someone feeling repulsion after seeing 2 gay people kissing on the streets (so long as there is no agression or discrimination). I'm sure many would feel repulsion over a father and a daughter kissing or having sex, or people eating excrements, because those are things that go against the basic human instincts and what has been in our genetic memory for millions of years with the purpose of preserving the species. I'm not saying those are wrong, as in morally wrong, but they can be disturbing for some people and that needs to be aknowledged by the people performing such acts and so they should think whether it's appropiate or not to do it in X place at X time.

Homophobia is culturally determiend, it has no biological basis. In places where homosexual sex was accepted , like say ancient Greece, there were no homophobes. Actually a lot of those things you said are culturally determined, they are not in our genes. So don't blame genetics for feeling repulsed by seeing gay people kiss.
And did you just compare gay people to people eating excrements??? Someone should ban you ASAP.
|
And what's wrong with people eating excrements?
Seriously, you are so wrong. The repulsion towards homosexuality in the majority of human males is genetic and has to be actively overcome by cultural learning (in females this instinct is much weaker).
And during history, like with all other instincts and human behaviour, these repulsions get picked up by our culture who strengthens them socially so you get a double effect. But don't deny the biological basis.
|
Oh please. There is no biological basis. I've never been repulsed by anyone kissing in my life (provided they were good looking of course), regardless of their gender. Also who cares if they're repulsed? I'm repulsed by fat people. Should I campaign for fat people to not be allowed on the streets?
The repulsion towards homosexuality in the majority of human males is culturally determined, not genetic. Most males would be indifferent towards homosexuality (except those who are gay or bisexual), if it weren't for judeo-christian theology that influenced western culture and stigmatised homosexuals.

You are ridiculos. If homophobia only had cultural reasons males would have started to fcuk each other ages ago, as horny as most men are.
Besides, it doesn't matter what you personally feel, we're talking populations here. For every man who is neutral towards male on male sex there's at least five who are repulsed by it.
And don't blame it on religion. All through history, in nearly all cultures everywhere on earth homosexuality has been a huge taboo. Which again proves that it has biological roots.
I refuse to discuss this. That repulsion towards homosexual acts is genetic is a fact.

Since when is homophobic = heterosexual. You don't have to be repulsed by something to not be interested in it.
And under certain circumstances lots of men do end up fucking each other (prison, or the pirates). Also you can't deny that the attitude towards homosexuals is the harshest in countries whose culture was influenced by judeo-christian religions versus countries that have not, like say Japan. In those countries while homosexuality may be a taboo topic (thoiugh in many cultures it was not up until powerful European nations influenced them), homosexuals have not been stigmatized in the same way as in countries influenced by judeo-christian theology (never heard of gay bahings going in in Japan, nor any nonsesne like gays being mentally ill).
And regardless of its origins, homophobia (like racism) is a very counter-productive behavior in modern society.

About 1 of 10 males are bisexual, meaning they don't have that repulsion. Meanwhile about 1 of 4 females are bisexual. As I said, the repulsion is much weaker in women and these numbers are evidence for it.
Prison is an extreme example. And how common is it there? Let's say 1 of 5 inmates in a prison are willing to have sex with a man, and half of these are willing to rape against your will, that gives 1 of 10 inmates that go around raping other men. Those numbers could well explain the phenomenon of prison rape. Bottom line: the majority of prisoners don't want to have homosexual sex. Btw, did you ever wonder why it's rape - as in against ones will? If there would be no repulsion, men in prison would have sex with each other by free will. But they don't.
Yes, Judeo-Christianity is probably the most homophobic culture, and yes it obviously did increase homophobia in most parts of the world (due to colonialism etc). But still it's just the other side of the double effect - an instinct will always be strengthened by culture, historically speaking. So in most cultures there were laws or rules and punishments against homosexual acts. In ancient pre-Christian Rome there even was a period with death penalty on homosexual acts.
