So I was checking out the yearly hardware totals for the EMEA market, and it occurred to me that the Middle Eastern, Asian and African Hardware market have some big influences in the yearly totals. Here is some charts.

Middle East, Africa & Asia Hardware

Console Yearly (change) Total

PSP    834,909 (-69%) 8,530,521
DS   654,005 (-72%) 6,304,230
Wii    609,102 (-59%) 2,919,346
PS3    527,136 (-54%) 2,426,603
PS2   526,663 (-68%) 13,157,172
X360 242,250 (-65%) 2,382,713

These are the totals so far this year for the three markets mentioned above. Some oddballs here are defenitely the good sales for the PSP and the very low sales for Xbox 360. Now compare this to the total hardware sold in EMEA so far this year.

EMEAA Hardware
Console Yearly (change) Total
DS    3,454,878 (-73%) 53,116,170
Wii   2,906,440 (-68%) 27,970,125
PS3    2,128,297 (-64%) 16,276,174
X360 1,417,587 (-67%) 15,830,084
PSP   1,377,664 (-73%) 24,559,653
PS2   763,950        (-72%) 61,256,773
Total 12,048,816 (-70%)

You can see that Xbox 360 is performing much better in the total EMEA market, but is doing very bad in Middle East, Africa and Asia. The opposite goes for the PSP. The PSP is second to last in total hardware sales in EMEA, but is way up top in the Middle East, Africa and Asia chart. Below I have calculated yearly hardware sales for EMEA, without Middle East, Africa and Asia numbers.

EMEA Hardware Without Middle East, Africa & Asia Hardware

DS      2,800,873 (19%)
Wii     2,297,338 (21%)
PS3     1,601,161 (25%)
X360    1,175,337 (17%)
PSP     542,755 (61%)
PS2     237,287 (69%)

Above is the yearly totals for the EMEA hardware market without Middle Eastern, African and Asian numbers. In brackets are the percentage of total sales the Middle Eastern, African and Asian numbers consist compared to total numbers. So when I look at these numbers I think its very odd over 60% of total PSP sales in EMEA are in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Same goes for the PS2, but seems less odd when you look at the fact that PS2 just launched in those regions and is probably very affordable for the general people there. Also, when you look at these new numbers mentioned above, the gap between Xbox 360 and PS3 is only 425,000 for this year so far, whereas it was over 700,000.

Its also worth noting that handhelds sell really well in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. So these markets show strong resemblance to the Japanese market. Any thoughts on these numbers? Basicly, Middle East, Africa and Asia are keeping the PSP alive is my guess.

You aint found shit!
