I remember it and for a while I believed the whole thing but... somehow it seems fake, like, they didn't finish it and just faked the C&D (fairly common, or as the case with OoT-2D where the guy faked DYING) because the project became too large or time consuming... someone on another forum explained it and it seemed more probable... especially waiting until the game was "almost finished" and that the game was never leaked, much less released as an incompletion ( you'd think most people would issue an incomplete version of the game then say they read the C&D that morning in their inbox). Hell, even that one AO-Rated-for-violence PS2 game got leaked... forgot what it's called, but it got leaked and burned to discs... and even sold I think on the black market -.- |

I find it hard to believe that someone would go through all that trouble just to fake a remake, which was also hosted and interviewed in major gaming outlets like 1UP, EGM and Gamespot.
Also, if Square threatened the people behind this project with lawsuits if they continued with it, I just can imagine what would happen if they leaked the incomplete project. Do you think that they would go through all that trouble, just for the heck of it.
Pretty much, this was one of the most awaited (and talked about) fan remake projects out there in it's time, like today's Black Mesa is too (HL1 remake). At least Valve has the decency not to fuck up the fans work.
