The Wii is not the PS2.. we should not look at the PS2 as a model.
I would say the DS is the closest model, but the Wii already had the path created by the DS so it did not have the "slower" start the DS has... The Wii is an epidemic, the more there are the more people that are infected and want one. Demand will increase ex. until a market saturation point has been reached.
