Like Gamerace said, it's about accessibility. The simplistic layout of the Wii remote, the few buttons, and the motion control all help reach more consumers through accessibility. That's also the (probably #1) thing that Apple focuses on. User interface and accessibility.
Motion controls most definitely play a huge role in that.
