This is the 2nd week for 360 S in Japan. Last week it was inline with Wii and PS3.
Microsoft can't give up on Japan for strategic reasons... basically they need to remain "around" in the region to ensure continued JP 3rd party support, even if those 3rd parties are most often targeting the west anyway. 360 has sort of become the new home for some of the more "hardcore" genres in Japan though, such as galgames and shmups. Catering to that niche while remaining a good platform for western releases from the bigger publishers is a decent angle for MS to work for the rest of the generation imo.
