So you can both throw and roll the bomb.
I can't remember if the same tutorial like message came up for throwing it, but basically link is holding the bomb differently if you have the controller in a roll or throw position (pointing down or pointing up).
So don't panic rolling bombs and throwing them was great especially rolling, because in one case I rolled a bomb near a plant monster (name escapes me if someone wants to mention it) and it swung to the right and picked it up. This obviously made me smile as I ran around waiting for the bomb to explode. I dont think they have plant monster dentist, so it was screwed :)
