You pay for the service and then buy play tickets that can give you multiple years access to a game (like buying) or go the rental amount. As of now, the service is free for a year. After a year it will be like $5/month for people who sign up now, and then look to probably go up to $10/month.
You are also able to get unlimited play in half hour chunks as demos, for a lot of the games.
