Some big jumps for some games from last week!

However GT5 went down by 2k. For whatever reasons the person who does the pre-order charts has decided to ignore Gt5 release date for the 3rd week in a row.

But for those who want to compare it to other games this week marks the 17th week until release for it.

At 17th week Halo reach was at 240k as you can see from Giggs' chart.

This is Americas preorder charts.

If we analyze the numbers, we see Halo 1-3 as well as ODST has Americas sales accounting for 72-80% of its total sales.

For GT we see americas sales for GT-GT4 plus prologue has between 20-30% sans GT3 A-spec which launched with a bundle in 2001.

WW id say theyre a good comparison, but honestly comparing preorders for a racing simulator on PS3 against Halo in America as some type of benchmark is the defination of lame, imo.

Sorry mate but i couldn't disagree with you more. You can't say "oh you can't compare a fps game with a racing game" as that is just looking for excuses. Both Halo and GT are massive franchises ALL OVER THE WORLD! I am sick to death of this whole Halo only sells in US, GT only sells in europe thing as it is total bollocks.

Right now if we use only Vgc figures on this website Halo 3 is the top selling exclusive game in europe. 2nd overall in all games this gen. If being 2nd doesn't show people outside europe like Halo then wtf does?!

The exact same thing goes for the GT series. GT3 sold over 7m units in US. Only a few hundred thousand short of selling more then the top selling Halo game there. GT games have sold nearly 20m units total in US. Again if that doesn't show people are interested in GT games then wtf does?!

You can't chop and change your view each week to make something sound better or worse. Both Halo and GT can be comparable as they both sell shead loads of games all across the world. They are both AAA titles. They will both sell millions in every region including Europe and US.

But fine, let's look at it your way. Let's forget about Halo. Ignore it, imagine it doesn't exist. How is Gt5 pre-orders holding up against other games at the same time in the cycle? After all that is what your saying right, Halo is huge in US so is unfair to compare it to that?

Splinter Cell Conviction at it's 17th week - 100k pre-orders

God of War 3 at it's 17th week - 200k pre-orders

Mag at it's 14th week - 90k

Obviously all the Pre-order data is not there but there are loads of games you can compare it to. Some it is doing better then and some it is doing worse.

The point is we have a list of pre-orders from all games from all genres over a year ago. And those tracking around the 80k mark with 17 weeks to go until release few have gone on to sell 1m in their 1st week in US.

To give some examples of that.

Mass Effect 2, Final Fantasy 13, God of War 3, Red Dead Redemption. Battlefield 2, Bioshock 2 etc etc.

Loads of games with higher pre-orders failed to make 1m units sold in it's first week in US. You can't use the "but it is a racing game" defence on it as the list above shows gun games, rpg games, high profile gun games that have received great reviews I.E ME2 and RDR which you claim is more popular there failed to break that barrier.

So is it lame to compare it to those games too?

Based on the figures we have and previous patterns GT5 will struggle to sell 1m units in it's first week in US. Do you not agree with that?
