From the previews I think I'm going to love the new combat and item usage. I love the more colorful and stylized art style, it's so much more interesting than the 'realistic' TP approach. The clues at more challenging puzzles is just icing on the cake. Zelda is going in the right direction. |
I'll certainly give the new Zelda a try, but from what I've seen so far, I get the impression of a few bells and whistles are there to just hide what may very well be a very generic Zelda title.
The other thing is that 1:1 motion control was the promise of the Wii four long years ago, and so far, only Red Steel 2 makes use of it for a full game, and it doesn't seem like anyone cared to buy that one. You'd think Nintendo fans would be itching for a chance to use that Motion on something, and it received excellent reviews.
But yes, it all comes down to taste, and where Zelda is concerned, all I see is Nintendo beating a dead horse. Zelda games are very formulaic and predictable.
Kirby's Epic Yarn, I have to say--that's the kind of inventiveness (not the exact style, but the strong, very clear focus on pure creativity) that the new Zelda should have. Hell, Nintendo promised for a while that Twilight Princess was the last Zelda game to be developed in it's particular post-Ocarina style, and that the new game would truly be something different. Aside from the graphics and 1:1 motion, I don't see anything truly different in the game. I really hope I'm wrong.
