Iwata also announced Nintendo's plans to make the successor to the Wii 3D compatible, telling Nikkei that "a full-scale entry into this field will take some time because 3D televisions will not catch on right away."

That doesn't sound like confirmation to me, it sounds like Iwata is saying Nintendo will wait awhile for 3D to catch on before jumping into the 3D market. Notice he says some time since the next console is expected in 2011 that is not sometime. Even if Nintendo doesn't launch its next platform in 2011 some time sounds like a longer duration then is possible for the next Nintendo platform, Nintendo definatly wait any longer then 2013 to launch the next platform and that isn't nearly enough time for 3D TV's to be adopted by a majority of the populous.

Also I can't recall where but Reggie said Nintendo wouldn't look at 3D gaming on televisions till their was a 30% attach rate. That will take many years since many people haven't even made the jump to HD yet let alone 3D!

  1. The 3DS is very much jumping into the 3D market
  2. How is it expected that their next system will be out in 2011?
