Hardly a revolution, remember the eyetoy? (or Playstation Eye - for PS3) this does the same job. The only thing that's different is that Kinect creates a character based on your movements whereas the eyetoy just showed an image of you.
It does have depth perception - which might be nice but i can't see the games that it's used for being any more serious than Wii games. If you're a driving game fan you're always going to prefer a steering wheel and pedals in front of you than pretending they're there. If you're an FPS fan you're going to want something to aim with rather than just pointing your finger at the screen.
