He probably used logical mathematic processing. For example if you see 10 even stacks of consoles are you going to count them all by hand? Or are you simply going to count how many are in the first stack then multiply by 10.

I have never seen a store just stack a pile of 100 consoles in a square, usually it has some sort of design. Or he just saw a bunch and made up a random number that sounded about right.
