The 1:1 sword motion sounds really cool but in practicality it isn't really needed. Can do very accurately 8 different directions with regular wiimote, how many more are really needed?

Scorpion's claws rotate in real time. You need more than 8 directions to kill it.

They could do it withhout Motion Plus, sure, except here's no way to slash upward with TP controls (and if you mapped it to the stick, you wouldn't be able to stab). They could do it without WM but the combat would be dumbed down and boring in comparison
