No there is no short term once FFXIII finishes releasing right after FFXIII, then you have Final Fantasy versus XIII and White Knight Story, The Last Renament, which is going to sell better on the PS3 than on the 360 in Japan..,

Its pretty obvious from his writing that he doesn't think 2 consoles can co-exist in Japan.

I was a GC and PS2 owner, but obviously Avinash has some deep-seated hatred towards Sony for crushing his precious GamCube. I can't see any other reason for such ramblings and blatant fanboyism. This gen he thinks the same thing will happen but in reverse.

Avinash, the PS3 will smash the 4 million or so GC's sold in Japan. That I can guarantee. I'd put it in my sig for your benefit, but I think I'd get made fun of for making such an easy prediction.

You'll notice my comment was intended to be sarcastic, PS3 may beat the GCN, but the fact is it won't climb much above it, maybe 5-6 million total, I was pointing out its current relative position to the GCN and how much these games will actually help it, not much, i'm just interjecting some reality into the discussion.

Of course your comment was sarcastic, haven't you heard that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit? You could have rationally come in to the topic and said "I don't think these games will give much of a boost, I see PS3 selling 5-6 million consoles in Japan." and civil discussion would follow. But instead you drop flamebait. Yes, the GC was a failure and clearly you think the PS3 will be as well.

I'll predict the PS3 will sell at least 8 million in Japan and have added it to my sig. That's a realistic prediction unlike all of yours (well except for 50% marketshare, that's possible).

If I had come in and pointed out why I think PS3 won't be a success and how it will be only marginally better than the GCN without sarcasm, and pointed out how its sales have been far weaker than the GCN you and others like you would have accused me of being a Wii fanboy, unable to take off his Wii glasses, since that would happen either way I chose to use sarcasm.

 

PS3 will not sell that much, maybe more than GCN but that's nothing to write home about, perhaps 6 million if they are lucky, eight millionis totally unrealistic, it can't even get over 100K in sales one week, also about my predictions all you have to do is look at how it is crushing the PS2 in sales, even with its supply constrained and that it has been availible in all three major markets , splitting its already low supply and you will see why it will easily pass the PS2 and PS1 and PS3 combined

The Wii lacks one important aspect that both the PS1 and PS2 had, strong third party support. The wii has third party support (which sometimes come from PS2 ports) but it is far from being impressive. In order for the Wii to outsell the PS2, it needs stronger third party support in the future. 

But there are some reports that Nintendo is already working on another console. Given the fact that the Wii and its third party support is somewhat lacking, there is no possible way that the Wii would pass the PS2 overall in sales. It would need to sell like the PS2 is right now after the new Nintendo console is out. I don't think its possible.
