Yes, yes you are.  I don't mind them as a general concept if that is the way the character was conceived, but it wasn't.  Cole already looked a certain way.  Unless they magically pull some time travel/he as warped by his powers/some random plot point in to explain why he looks that way, it is a HUGE disconnect with already existing lore and it is jarring to a lot of people (myself included).

 

What if in Empire Strikes Back Vader was instead skinny, wore white, didn't have the helmet and was played by Steve Martin, that wouldn't seem weird to you?
