Two numbers given in sound are number of standard speakers (the first number) and the number of LFE (speakers that play sounds to low in frequency for a normal speaker to be capable of making). 5.1 is standard surround sound (three speakers across the front, two at the back, and one LFE that is theoretically directionless since the sound carries through the floor). It makes no sense to have that on a portable. Even with Dolby's virtual 5.1 that works with two speakers they need to be further apart than a handheld and won't sound good anywhere in public.
