It also seems like the Nintendo team is taking a new approach with the visuals of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. The visual style is one that's hard to describe, but hopefully the trailer you've seen helps to give you an idea. Miyamoto's talk of being influenced by impressionist artwork really shines through, as this appears to be one of the most artistically inspired Zelda games since Wind Waker. To see a visual style of Twilight Princess tied in with a vibrant, colorful and impressionistic approach to your surroundings was really quite invigorating.

Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only gamer that knows what impressionist art is. The original poster was not realistic looking, it was impressionist. I was especially reminded of this painting:

And the first thing I thought when I saw the game in motion was that they stuck to the expressionist style of the original poster. It's a beatiful style and I'm glad they are going with it instead of pandering to the parent's basement crowd with either realism or the ultra bloodiness of most unrealistic games, they instead created something unique in video games; and the sense of heightened subjective reality of impressionism is perfect for describing a mythos.

I also like the visuals for another reason, every 3D Zelda has used a different art style, so why stop now.
