right now the best option is to go for a PSP/smartphone
making a dedicated handheld game system would be a loose loose situation. just look at the market now..HOW much is the PSP software moving?
no way as near as much as the Iphone or the DS, now add into the fact the new 3DS you have at this point already at walmart for instance Sony's PSP is not on End cap's. it's being lambasted in the MEDIA an pretty much every gaming forum, no 2nd analog stick..like that would matter?
a 2nd analog stick is not going to increase PSP sales at this point. the better position is to keep what you have on the market the PSP as it is can download PSN content, which is where more of their content is goin to be place pretty soon the support for UMD along side of Digital download's will be dropped in support of complete digital download for all PSP's.
than move the PSP platform over to the Smartphone area, because there even though there is many smartphone's Sony does have 1st party dedicated PSP game's that could be used to seperate their smartphone from the rest of the other smartphones.
thus no longer having to worry about:
a) stocking UMD that pirate's were dumping thir content's anyway
b) do not have to worry about directly competeing with Nintendo in the handheld space but does indirectly compete..just like the Iphone currently does.
c) use a FREE OS that they then have access to their App's also that mean's more game's and non game app's.
