Failure in what sense? Financial? Nintendo is one of the "new-age" companies, with ridiculous ratios of profits/number of employees, a la apple. Nintendo, in all it's history, only had one quarter in red, so Gamecube and N64 can't be considered failures. Failure for a company is another thing, is when you bleed money, as Sony has done with the PS3, or Microsoft with the XBox and, in some regard, X360. You can consider them investment, but if you can't recover the losses, that's a failure, even if you sell the most consoles.
